About us

Originally formed in 1970, when the then head of Dronfield Henry Fanshawe school, responded to an article in the parish church magazine asking what had happened to the brass bands that used to be in Dronfield in the 1940's.

The band spent its early days rehearsing in the local school, or musical director’s home, and instruments were either donated to the band, or belonged to the band members themselves.

As the band grew, the need for larger rehearsal facilities meant the band had to move out of Dronfield in 1987, eventually settling at our current home - The Michael Church, Lowedges in 2009.

Over the years the band have enjoyed successes both on and off the contest stage, with particular highlights including; representing Yorkshire at the National Finals of Great Britain, as well as well received tours of Belgium, Switzerland and Germany.

A period of rebuilding ensued following Covid-19, with the band going from strength to strength ever since, with the organisation now comprising three brass bands; Dronfield Band, Dronfield and Lowedges Community band, and Daytime Brass.

Dronfield Band rehearses twice a week at the Michael Church, Lowedges Road, on Thursday and Sunday and performs at a wide variety of events throughout the year.

The band are available to book for concerts, fetes and galas, as well as weddings and other functions.
